Why TV debates are so noisy and useless most of the times?
It is disheartening to watch noisy panel discussions in TV studios every night. These debates seem highly motivated when observed in non partisan manner. The motivation may be from one of the following:
- News channel trying to multiply its TRP by creating lot of drama
- Anchor having vested interest in topic under discussion, it may be personal, it may be part of larger organizational bias.
- Channel going soft on the Government and its allies and hitting hard the others
There is a possibility that the above points may not be true, but if there is no motivation then why lot of noise from anchor. We can understand noise from panelist, but why other way round. It is like speaker in the Parliament making noise and interrupting opposition leaders. This whole business of TV debate has come to a situation where it creates lot of noise but no substance. Populism has taken over right perspective, be it in governance or in media.
In case of Nitin Gadkari and Purti group we have seen lot of drama and aggression by media houses, both in print and electronic, but the same aggression is not shown while Robert Vadra deals are discussed. It is not rare when any body taking name of congress first family during discussion is interrupted by an aggressive anchor. In some of the cases and on some channels the anchor is assigned the job of protecting congress party and its first family interests as if it is his national responsibility.
Most of the print and electronic media seem to be enjoying the 630Cr Bharat Nirman Ad campaign. (Refer link below)

As per Oxford dictionary the definition of discussion is, "the action or process of talking about something in order to reach a decision or to exchange ideas."
Unfortunately very few of the discussions initiated could reach a conclusion in TV studios. The anchors behave like panelist and leave no stone unturned to oblige their bosses and never forget to take a pat on their back. There is a lot of hypocrisy on the part of most print and electronic media journalists. They pretend to be holier than thou and doing all sort of dirty stuff backdoor. Therefore, to have a right prospective about any topic you need to do a lot of research. The days are over when by reading a newspaper we used to make our opinion, this could be a grave mistake in present days. The media is becoming like political outfits and the days are not far away when people will take journalists in same league as politicians.
